But we’re not looking beyond that. CEU is also a team-to-beat because they’ve been there lots of times. (Rod) Ebondo has been in the D-League for so long and he has been in Finals. Their core, although school-based, are still very experienced. So we’re just focused on the task at hand,” he said.Luckily, Altamirano will have Conference MVP pacesetter Jeron Teng at his disposal, as he will count on the La Salle prodigy to lead Flying V to the promised land.“Jeron is an achiever. When he puts his mind to it, he will not stop until he gets it. Before, he’s been known as a scorer. But now, he’s trying to evolve the other aspects of his game,” the coach said. But for all of Teng’s magnificence, the veteran mentor reiterated that the 23-year-old swingman can’t do it all alone. That’s why he’s relying equally on his core of Gab Banal, Eric Salamat, Hans Thiele, and Thomas Torres to get the job done.“What I like about Jeron is his ability to involve his teammates. That’s a very good sign of a good player. But of course, he can’t do all of that if not for his teammates so I think Jeron is very blessed to have teammates like Eric, Gab, and Thomas,” he said.ADVERTISEMENT Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. (PHOTO/Courtesy)CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup-FinalUganda 3-0 EritreaStarTimes Stadium, Lugogo Thursday, 19-12-2019LUGOGO – Uganda are the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup 2019 Champions! The Cranes sealed the crown on Thursday afternoon following a 3-0 victory over Eritrea at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.Just like it has been throughout the tournament, the Cranes dominated both halves and it was no surprise they took the day in the end.A first half strike by Bright Anukani and a goal each in the second period from Mustafa Kizza and Joel Madondo did the damage for Johnathan McKinstry’s side.Anukani fed off an Allan Okello pass to squeeze in the opener at the near post on 31 minutes. With Eritrea trying all they can to get back in the game, Kizza doubled Uganda’s advantage on 68 minutes as he collected from Karim Watambala before blasting into the back of the net. With a minute to play, substitute Madondo put the icing on the cake as he finished off a Ben Ocen long-pass for Uganda’s third. The Kirinya JSS forward had six minutes earlier, replaced Fahad Bayo as McKinstry and his technical team called for a final change.Speaking after the game, McKinstry noted that it had been a good tournament for Uganda.“It has been a good tourney for us, noted Mckinstry.“We knew its going to be very tight so we had to manage our schedule very well.“We missed many good chances but we have managed to show that we have enough quality to score goals.”This is Uganda’s 15th CECAFA crown in history and the first since 2012.They have won all their five matches at the competition this year, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two.For Eritrea, this is their best ever finish at the regional competition and it is a big step in their development.Uganda Cranes XI vs EritreaCharles Lukwago (GK, KCCA FC), Paul Willa (Vipers SC), Mustafa Kizza (KCCA FC), John Revita (KCCA FC), Halid Lwaliwa (Vipers SC), Shafiq Kagimu (URA FC), Bright Anukani (Proline FC), Allan Okello (KCCA FC), Joachim Ojera (URA FC), Fahad Bayo (Vipers SC), Viane Sekajugo (Wakiso Giants)Comments Tags: Bright AnukaniCECAFA Senior Challenge CupJoel MadondoJohnathan McKinstryMustafa KizzaUganda Craneslast_img read more
