Southern Kings surprise the Bulls in Super Rugby warm up

first_imgTuesday Feb 1, 2011 Southern Kings surprise the Bulls in Super Rugby warm up Its a busy period as we lead up to the Six Nations and Super Rugby tournament, so please bear with us as when updates are a little slower than what youre used to, theres a reason for it. For now, heres highlights from an upset on the weekend. The Southern Kings, who some of you may remember from the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa in 2009, are an ambitious young side who now, under coach Alan Solomons, are growing in strength and have real Super Rugby ambitions for the future. The region has a rich history with rugby amongst the locals and the aim is to tap into that eventually, but for now build up a competitive team that will become a force to be reckoned with. Theyve now got a powerful forward back, and some talented speedsters in the backs. This was evident as they beat the Bulls 23-7 on the weekend. It was a second string Bulls side but it was still quite an upset as the Kings beat the Super Rugby champions in an impressive display at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.Siyanda Grey and Matthew Tayler-Smith showed maturity and serious gas, with Grey in particular finishing off a brilliant breakaway try that featured flyer Norman Nelson. Pierre Maraais, a sub, was also involved in everything, showing that this side has plenty of potential as they build towards their 2013 entry into the Super Rugby tournament.“We showed we belonged here,” Solomons said.An enjoyable game with some nice play, particularly for the Grey try, heres some quick highlights for those of you who might have missed it. Remember that if there was anything that took place on the weekend that you think should be featured, please get in touch.Contact page | Facebook Page | TwitterADVERTISEMENT Posted By: rugbydump Share Send Thanks Sorry there has been an error Related Articles 81 WEEKS AGO scottish prop saves fire victim 84 WEEKS AGO New Rugby X tournament insane 112 WEEKS AGO Vunipola stands by his comments supporting… From the WebThis Video Will Soon Be Banned. Can Britain’s best-known letting agent make it across the Pond?

first_imgThe strange world of a London letting agent portrayed in Channel 4 series Stath Lets Flats is to re-made for US viewers. And the UK series, which recently finished its second run, won a BAFTA in July for Best Scripted Comedy. The show, which follows an incompetent lettings agent and his colleagues as they run an agency in North London started out as a cult hit but soon went mainstream as audiences warmed to the lovable but idiotic eponymous central character, Stath, played by its creator Jamie Demetriou. And now Stath Lets Flats is being remade in the US largely due to the success of the original series on HBO Max, America’s leading pay-TV channel.Office comparisonThe show is being compared to The Office, the Ricky Gervais sitcom that was also remade successfully for a US audience, although both shows follow illustrious predecessors. These include Till Death Us Do Part, Antiques Roadshow, Are You Being Served, The Vicar of Dibley and Dad’s Army.Demetriou, when asked recently about why Stath Lets Flats has been a success, said: “Everyone on the show on the surface is very stupid, but I think it’s trying to capture a general goodness and sweetness about a lot of people I grew up with, people I went to school with, people who sort of I don’t know — it’s more just like general personality types you see over and over again and you see, they’re generally seen as flawed but it’s kind of like tapping into the goodness of them.”The new series is to be made by Rupert Murdoch’s film and TV arm, Fox.Read more about the TV series.Fox TV HBO Stath Lets Flats Jamie Demetriou Channel 4 December 18, 2020Nigel LewisWhat’s your opinion?
