Tweet this comment Cancel Submit Comment Subscribe to None Replies All new comments Submitted to Sumner Newscow — The Sumner County Emergency Management recently released this statement from its office…  National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH that includes Sumner County…in effect from late tonight through late Saturday night.A winter storm will affect the area late Friday night through Saturday night. A Wintry mix is expected to develop late Friday night into Saturday morning. The precipitation is expected to transition to all snow from northwest to southeast from Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. The snow may be moderate to heavy at times. Driving conditions may become hazardous.A winter storm system will begin to affect the forecast area late tonight through Saturday night…with accumulations of sleet, freezing rain and snow expected.Ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch is possible late tonight into Saturday…especially for areas southeast of the Kansas Turnpike.Snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches will be possible across the Watch Area by late Saturday night…moderate to heavy snowfall is most likely to occur Saturday evening.Wind chills to around zero degrees will be possible across much of the area during the early morning hours this weekend into Monday and Tuesday.There is a slight chance of light snow or rain on Christmas Day in south central and southeast Kansas…no accumulations are expected at this time.last_img read more
