At the price of 150/1, the loyal punter put a €3 bet on Martin O’Neil’s side to win the tournament for the first time since its formation 96 years ago. His unwavering faith struck a chord with Paddy Power, who decided to pay him out the full €450 just for taking the bet. A spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “The mood in the country certainly wasn’t one of optimism after last night’s result so we can’t but admire the stones on this lad.“Given the timing of the bet he may have been drowning his sorrows but feel as though his ridiculous optimism can’t go unrewarded and have decided to pay the man his money.”It’s not the first time that Paddy Power have rewarded the sheer optimism of a punter, just two weeks ago, the bookmakers paid out two Rangers fans who backed Kazakh champions Astana to overcome a five goal deficit and defeat Rangers’ arch rivals Celtic. The World Cup’s Finest with Redzonesports’ Anthony Gray

first_img FDJ’s ParionsSport launches sponsorship programme for French amateur football August 24, 2020 In The World Cup’s Finest we ask various individuals to delve into their own personal history of football’s quadrennial showpiece extravaganza, selecting a number of favourites as well as revealing what is their very first World Cup memory.Today Anthony Gray, Head of Football at Redzonesports.bet, tells us about priding his own abilities on Walter Zenga and a duo of Brazilian highlights, as well as recalling when a young Michael Owen unveiled his talents on the world stage.Favourite World Cup:PlayerWalter Zenga. By the time of the 1990 World Cup I fancied myself as a goalkeeper (incredibly I still do) and Walter Zenga was unbeaten in Italy’s first five games of the tournament. It was an enormous anti-climax when Zenga conceded in the semi-final, I was starting to consider him unbeatable.GoalMichael Owen (England v Argentina, 1998). I was working in a pet food factory in Wigan during the game and heard the goal on the radio rather than saw it, but Micheal Owen’s goal v Argentina immediately came to mind when I saw this question. It was exciting because England had taken the lead against a formidable opposition and looked well set to go deep into the tournament with a talented team, it’s also a simply fantastic goal.GameFrance v Brazil, 1986 (quarter-final). This game was so good that it was shown re-live on TV (in the days of 4 terrestrial channels) the following Christmas. This game was generally considered the game of the tournament plus it gave me one of my first experiences of a penalty shoot-out.TeamEngland, 1990. In 1990 England went to extra-time three times which was important to a school-kid with the threat of bedtime after football hanging over him. At that point I was free from doubt, regret and opinion as an England fan, so was able to enjoy the performances of the players that I assumed were the best men for the job.KitBulgaria, 1994. It lent itself nicely to the Adidas template of the time, which I was a big fan of. The same company were responsible for my favourite goalkeeping kit, the 1990 Black and Pink squared top, worn by Rene Higuita amongst others._________________________________________________________________First World Cup memory1 June 1986 (Brazil v Spain). The first game I remember watching in the World Cup was Brazil 1 Spain 0 early in the 1986 tournament, with Socrates scoring the only goal. From memory it was a controversial winner, I’d have been eager for Brazil to live up to their reputation, so wouldn’t have cared one bit.The World Cup’s Finest is to be a regular feature during the Russia World Cup, profiling a different individual each week day. Betgenius – Euro 2020: Adding player markets to BetBuilder will deliver margin gains

first_img Share Betgenius: Spare change… how will the increase to five subs affect football trading? June 4, 2020 Submit Highlights and match reports for Sportradar’s Euro 2020 Simulated Reality June 8, 2020 StumbleUpon In part two of Betgenius’ Euro 2020 optimisation series , James McKiernan, Commercial Director for Europe, explains why same-game multiples will once again be a hugely popular product and how operators can set their offering apart…_____________Same-game accumulators and request-a-bet (RAB) products were one of the biggest success stories of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Allowing punters to bet more creatively and with greater freedom of choice, we witnessed it consistently drive around 25% margin across Europe, Africa and LatAm markets. The idea of betting on combinations without any restrictions, however quirky, unlikely and outlandish they might seem, resonated with recreational punters and it has continued to do so ever since. The product is a dream for marketers and traders alike. In its H1 2019 results, William Hill revealed its ‘YourOdds’ offering made up a quarter of its tournament gross win.Two years on from the World Cup, RAB-style products – automated or otherwise – have become a fixture in most online sportsbooks. But remaining at the front of this type of betting as the next major tournament approaches mean sportsbooks must breathe new life into the product and align with trends in fan engagement.Tapping into Player Performance                            To that end, the growth in popularity of player performance markets so far this Premier League season is an exciting development.Player stats have been central to how fans understand football for a long time. By pricing these markets, tier-one brands now enable their customers to apply their forensic football knowledge in ways that have previously never been possible. When punters see that Wilfried Ndidi topped the Premier League tackle charts in the 2017/18 and 18/19 seasons – and ranks third so far this season – for example, they can back a directly related outcome such as Ndidi to surpass his tackles total or to receive a yellow card.Promoting the impact of star players within matches at Euro 2020, like Kylian Mbappe to have five shots, Marco Reus to score and Raphael Varane to complete 60 passes when Germany and France meet at the Allianz Arena on 16 June, is tailor-made for the modern football fan.Alongside Sportcast, we’ve added more than 20 player performance markets to BetBuilder, using the latest AI and machine learning methodology in our pricing to ensure all market combinations are possible and profitable.Social ClimberLike fantasy sports, betting on the performance of individual players adds to the live viewing experience. With an interest in tackles, passes and shots, fans count them as they happen –  even when they don’t impact the match result. Equally, just like the 24/7 content proliferated by Twitter and Instagram, player performance betting incentivises fans to closely follow their favourite football stars as individuals.By running social media marketing campaigns involving market-types and multiples linked to the trending and most-talked about players this summer, sportsbooks have a great chance of tapping into the tournament narrative and driving retention rates. If Cristiano Ronaldo starts in scintillating style with goals in his opening two group games for instance, the ability to create and drive a storyline on his performance versus France will convert far more effectively than more traditional pre-match markets. This has been a key piece of advice we’ve given both our BetBuilder and Genius Sports Media’s digital marketing partners ahead of the Euros. At the 2018 World Cup, BetVictor’s hugely popular Million Pound Bet competition enjoyed the lucrative benefits of social media marketing, with punters sharing and comparing their unique bet slips on Twitter all tournament-long. It took a 17,042/1 long-shot when Uruguay faced Portugal in the last 16 to scoop top-prize in this instance. But by adding player performance markets to same-game-multiples and leveraging the social buzz, the chance of pre-match success at Euro 2020 will be far more likely._______________James McKiernan – Commercial Director Europe – Betgenius Related Articles Share Betgenius expands virtual sports range with Kiron August 20, 2020last_img read more
