Beware! iOS 8 Wave is a hoax, don’t put iPhone in microwave

first_imgIt is a story we have heard before. After Apple released iOS8 on Wednesday, a slickly-made infographic started circulating on social mediasites like Twitter, telling iPhone users that the new operating software sports featuresthat will allow iPhones to be charged inside Microwave. While it clearly lookslike a prank, a quick search on Twitter reveals that many have fallen prey toit.  For example here is one iPhone user who allegedly tried tocharge his phone with “wave” feature. The image circulated on the web notes, “You can now Wave-charge your device by placing it within a household microwave for a minute and a half… OS 8 contains new drivers that interface with your device’s radio-baseband allowing it to synchronize with microwave frequencies.”The prank is similar to the one that was circulated after Apple announced iOS 7. At that time, the elaborately created info graphic told iPhone users that after they had updated their phone, it would become water resistant. This too led to many iPhone users dunking their phones in water after updating them to the latest version of iOS.last_img
